What is the purpose of art? How can we learn to read a painting by paying attention to the interaction of shape and color? How is the artist’s ordering of shape and color related to God’s providence?
James Patrick Reid, a New York City based artist and lecturer and a member of the Painting Center gallery in Manhattan, uses paintings from different eras and different styles to answer these questions in his talk entitled “Art and Transformation in Christ: Salvation in the Midst of the Earth.” Mr. Reid’s talk was sponsored by the Fine Arts Dept. at Franciscan University of Steubenville.
